At a special Parish Council meeting attended by members of the public on Wednesday 15th February the PC strongly endorsed plans for development of the car park at the Memorial Hall. The plans can be seen on line at EDDC Planning using reference 17/0071/FUL.

The Chairman said that professional fees spent so far amounted to approx. £4000, but this had been covered by grants leaving the PC about £300 to find from Parish funds. He was grateful to the Gundry/Allen family for giving the land free and to Steve Eastland Design Ltd for providing architectural services free of charge. He estimated that the total saving to the PC as a result , was of the order of £7500. It is estimated that work to convert the land into a car park will amount to a further £18000, for which grants are being sought.

The PC was sympathetic to requests for more screening between the road and the car park and would consider this as work proceeded. However requests to resite the entrance and exit could not be met. An exit requires a ‘vision splay’ in excess of 80 mtrs and that could only be achieved with the plans as submitted.

This is the only Planning application that the PC has ever made as a body in its 150 year history and it is a very important one. It will fundamentally improve the viability of the Hall, remove car parking from the road and provide safe access and exit.

The plans will now be considered by EDDC.
